Cookie R-E-S-P-E-C-T

Noah wanted dinosaur cookies instead of cupcakes for his birthday party. So I called up my friend, Casey, to get the skinny about making iced sugar cookies. (She's the guru at making them!) Casey hooked me up with her royal icing recipe and then met me at Hobby Lobby to help me pick out the icing utensils: nozzles, baggies, holders, food coloring, etc...I was completely overwhelmed and so glad to have her help!!

Great Papa came down for dinner a week before the birthday party, so I thought, "Why not do a trial run before the big day?" My mom came for dinner, too, so I had her help. The dough-making, dino-cutting and baking cookies part was easy...but then came the icing. Mixing the icing up was a breeze and adding Wilton's food coloring made it all the more vivid, but once we scooped the icing into the bag and started icing...the tedious work set in. I now have a newfound respect for people who bake for a living as well as those mommies who are exceedingly talented at icing baked goods.

From this experience I've learned 1) icing cookies in small batches is fine, but NOT for the masses...I'll just call a bakery. 2) I need to get a bigger nozzle to allow the icing to come out faster because I'm incredibly impatient. 3) I still need practice at the fine decorating...my hand isn't that steady. 4)Rregardless how the cookies looked, they all disappeared so they must have tasted good!! 5) This won't be my only time at decorating cookies...I WILL try again! 6) Noah had cupcakes at his party...
