Trick-o-Treat 2012

The holidays get more fun every year Noah gets older.  He could NOT wait for Halloween this year!

He knew immediately he wanted to be Scooby Doo.

So I set off to find him the perfect Scooby Doo costume.

In the meantime, he made Halloween sugar cookies with Aunt Masha.

Miss Abby assigned some spooky homework for his Pre-K class - a noddle skeleton and a self portrait of his Halloween costume.  (He did a great job on his portrait!)

The costume Noah wanted was about $50 online.  Call me "cheap" if you want.  I don't mind.  I have a hard time spending money on costumes that only last a short period of time.  Now, Noah likes to play dress-up, so his costumes do get a lot of wear, but we only formally wear Halloween costumes to school for the party, gymnastics for a picture, to Mommy's school carnival and then on the actual night of Halloween.  We're talking four actual wears, people!  I'm NOT spending an arm and a leg on a costume!  And the Lord provided, so I wouldn't have to.  While shopping in Goodwill with my mom, we stumbled over the exact Scooby Doo costume Noah wanted.  And it was in perfect condition!  How much did I pay?  $5.  Yep.  Five bucks.  We also picked up a Batman costume complete with a mask and cape, plus two Transformer costumes: Bumblebee and Optimus Prime.  I love me some thrift store shopping!

So while I was still teaching school I got an email from Cody telling me our son had requested we all dress up for Halloween.  Daddy will be Shaggy because that is Scooby's best friend.  And Mommy will be Daphne.  (Thank God Noah didn't requested for me to be Velma...)

The other problem I have with Halloween besides the cost of costumes is that for adult females to dress up, you must look provocative or be scantly clad.  I'm all about looking cute, but not at the cost of my integrity.  I don't understand why Halloween is an excuse for young teen girls and adult women to dress up like you know what.  (This is a family blog, so I'll keep my language G-rated.  You can fill in the blanks as to what I mean...)
So while I want to please my son by playing the role as Daphne, I also want to be his mommy who is a woman of integrity AND beauty.  I want to be the example of the type of woman my son will marry some day.  Well, the Lord provided again!
My friend and hairdresser, Leah, had a homemade Daphne costume complete with the red wig and pink tights.  (She was Daphne with her son as Scooby a few years ago and couldn't find an appropriate costume, so she had one made.)  The only thing I'd have to find was a pair of shoes.  And you know where I went for those...The thrift store!  We also picked up Shaggy's costume at the good 'old thrift store.  All the Halloween costumes cost us a total of $12...Beat that.

Noah and I made our debut, without Shaggy because he was saving lives, at my school's annual carnival.  Though I'm not teaching there anymore, Noah and I still went to participate...and see little Daphne Deemer and her mommy.

On Halloween night we headed to Crystal Lakes to Trick-o-Treat with our small group from church.  We had a little cookout then walked about two streets before the kids gave up and got tired.  It was a lot of fun dressing up with Noah.  Can't wait to see what he picks for us next year.

Hope you had a fun Halloween!  Scooby Dooby Doo!!!!
