For an early Mother's Day outing, I took my mom to a painting class called Wine and Palette. I've been before when I paints my Waves of Color masterpiece with my best friend, Abby, and her mother-in-law. Since I raved about it so much to my mom, she was dying to go. I told her to block off the evening of May 1st and not plan a thing. I picked her up at 5:30 p.m. and we headed to Mustang. The painting class was held at Tony's Island Grill, a Caribbean cuisine restuarant, which was pretty good!
We walked in to the back room which was set up with two long tables of blank white canvas and a palette of paint at each seat. Mom was pleasantly surprised since I hadn't told her exactly what we were doing. She was actually pretty giddy! Our task was to paint our impression of Vincent Van Gogh's "Starry Night Over the Rhone". A Van Gogh? Yeah right. I knew mine would be awful, but we'd have fun while we did it. Mom has always been good at artwork. She used to draw all my projects for me in class...Don't go telling my old teachers now...
First we mixed black and blue paint to make a nice navy color and painted two sections of the canvas. Then mixed in white with our navy to create a lighter blue and finished painting the white canvas. That had to dry, so we ordered cheese fries, chicken tacos and glasses of wine.
Then came the accent colors to reflect the city lights on the water. My blending skills are subpar, so my lights look more like dashs rather than reflections. My city line turned out pretty good, though. I managed to paint what resembled three church steeples and a bridge with lights!! My mom said I was a show off. #tongueincheek. We then painted in three boats riding out the wave. And the finishing touch were a couple walking along the shoreline. My couple are holding hands. #againshowoff
