Easter 2012

Easter was so much fun this year!!  Noah is completed aware of what the holiday means.  He knows Jesus died on a cross for him because Jesus loves him so much.  He knows on the third day God rose Jesus to Heaven, where He lives now.  Noah gets so involved in all the crafts and activities.

Of course, Mommy and Daddy were both working the day of Noah's school party, so it fell to Mimi to make sure Noah got to participate.  Miss Abby got the kids settled and ready with a little story during Circle Time.  Then the kids got out their baskets and headed to the fellowship hall.  The grass was wet from rain, so the kids did their egg hunt inside.

Noah's buddy, Cashton, was there to hunt eggs, too.  Of course, he was dressed in a tractor shirt with a camo basket.  Such a little copy of his daddy, Brett.  All country.

Noah started a little trend of wearing Easter baskets as hats.  Some of the kids followed suite.

At home Noah and I got in to dying hard boiled eggs for our own Easter basket.  We made monster eggs and magic, ones too.  I showed Noah how you can write using white crayon the shell before you dye the egg and the writing will show up.  He wrote his name on one, died it orange and then was so impressed by the magic of it all.  I love how simple-minded Noah is.  He finds joy in the smallest things.  Somewhere along the way we, adults, lose that.  I hope he hangs on to that joy his whole life.

We had another Easter egg hunt to attend also.  Journey Church throws an annual Easter party at one of the local elementary schools, Kennedy Elementary, as an outreach to the community.  There are moon bounces, face painting, art and crafts, hots dogs and drinks.  Plus there are several eggs hunts split up by ages.  This year was the best one yet as far as the egg hunts go.  They organized the hunts not only by age, but also roped off the areas.  It was very fair.  Every kid left with a basket spilling over with brightly colored plastic eggs.  There were tons of people which made the lines for all the games and activities super long and super crowded, but what an incredible opportunity to minister to people who are unchurched!  Abby and Kynlee met us; this is one of our traditions.  Noah and Kynlee had a great time hunting eggs together.

We decided to beat the lines during the egg hunts, of course, once Kynlee and Noah hunted their own eggs.  Noah would not have anything to do with get his face painted.  I couldn't even convince him to do something OU or superhero related.  He was completed weirded out by the idea, actually cried crocodile tears when I suggested it.  I hope he's not OCD.  Kynlee, on the other hand, jumped at the idea.  She wanted a butterfly which is something a princess would get, she said.  I love that she's so girly, something Abby didn't really see herself having in a daughter.  I just adore that Kynlee.

At home, Cody and I hid so many plastic eggs for more egg hunts.  Noah would hide his eyes while we hid the eggs under the expectation Mommy and Daddy would hide the eggs in "hard" spots.

I also stole an idea from Ms. Abby and made an alphabet game using plastic eggs.  Before Noah heads off the kindergarten, IN A YEAR!!!, he must recognize his upper and lower case letters.  He knows all his upper case, but not all the lower case.  So I wrote the upper case letters each on one part of the plastic egg and the matching lower case on the other half.  Then we played a matching game.  Noah would match the letters.  Once he made a match, he would have to tell me what sound the letter makes, another skill necessary for kindergarten, and then we would talk about words he knew that started with that letter.  It was a very fun, easy game and a great way to recycle all those extra plastic eggs!

The Easter bunny did stop by and see Noah.  He left bubbles, candy, a balloon and some CARS toys.  Easter was so fun this year!  Thank you, God, for sending your Son.
