Carpet, Hauling Dirt and Sawing Logs...

I never thought I would be so thankful to have something cushiony under my feet. We got carpet not too long ago. The night it was put in, all three of us were eager to run barefoot on it! We were definitely excited to be rid of the concrete. Noah happily made carpet angles while I just laid in the floor. We got a great deal from family friends in Shawnee. In the living room, we went with a multi-toned brown and in the dining room, a chocolate giraffe print.
BEFORE: A small pond with lots of rock and small shurbs surrounding it was such an eye sore. We were eager to rip it out since purchasing the home. It's great to say it's gone! Cody's brother, Dwayne, came down with Codys' dad, Gene, and sister, Masha, towing the tractor which helped us dig out the pond!!AFTER: All covered up and a little bit of grass growing!
Since we had the tractor and it only took 10 minutes to cover up the pond, we thought, "Why not dig up and destroy other parts of the 2 acres?" So we did! We hauled off enormous native grass bushes, collapsed a hill and dug up an ancient basketball goal reinforced with concrete.
I really shouldn't say 'we'. I just road around on Noah's four-wheeler and checked the mail...

On to sawing logs.... ZZZZZs...

No we aren't sleeping around here when we say 'sawing logs'. We are literally sawing logs and LOTS of them! We are working hard! When are we not when it comes to this house.

In September, Cody and I got wild hairs to cut down some enormous trees in the front yard - three enormous trees to be exact! I wanted to see the road from the kitchen window and lots of trees were in the way. That was all I had to say to get Cody to power up the chain saw.

Cody did the cutting and I did the hauling - well of what I could lift anyway. We loaded 6 trailers full of branches to take to the city dump to be recycled into mulch. One of the trees was pretty brutal on Cody - lots of poke thorns that cut up his arms and legs. I'm happy to report no snake was found, although it would have been harmed, while removing brush and cutting the trees. (However, on the way to the pond Noah, without knowing, stepped over a snake and I almost stepped on it!! Eek! I got a shuffle and Cody chopped off its head. Chris Carlson and Cody investigated to find out whether it was a poisonous snake or not. It wasn't. It was actually a snake that eats other snakes! Now, that's my kind of snake!

Here's the BEFORE when we purchased the home:And here's the AFTER since we've been working on the yard. Better? Our yard is a little less foresty than it was, but there is still tons to do! There seems to always be something to trim up or cut down around here.
