Noah Goes to the Dentist

I can't believe my baby is old enough to visit the dentist!! It's just so crazy! Yesterday I took him to see Ms. Judy and Dr. Haskett who have cleaned my teeth since I was little. It's cool when life comes full circle like that. My dentist is now my kid's dentist. In June Noah came with me to watch me get my teeth cleaned and meet the dentist. He was very interested in the tools Ms. Judy stuck in my mouth and why she was doing so. Then Noah and I went to the public library two weeks before his appointment to check out books about going to the dentist as a way to prepare Noah for his visit. This blog is adapted from Mercer Mayer's classic children's book Just Going to the Dentist.

Mom took me to the dentist. She said I needed a checkup.

I didn't need a checkup. My teeth were just fine. But we went anyway.

At the dentist's office we met the receptionist, Sondra.

She gave Mommy paperwork to fill out since I'm a new patient.

The dentist wasn't ready to see me so we sat in the waiting room.

I played on Mommy's phone while I waited.

When it was my turn, Ms. Judy came to get me.

We went into a really weird room.

I sat in a funny chair.

Ms. Judy put a bib on me.

Then she said she was going to count my teeth with her Tooth Counter.

One.Two.Three.....Ten teeth on the bottom! And ten on the top!Ms. Judy told Mommy I had dark stains on the surface of my teeth.

She said she thought they might be cavities, but they weren't.

They were hard to the touch.

Ms. Judy told Mommy to watch my intake of juice -

especially apple juice because it can really stain teeth.

Mommy and Daddy have to help me brush better, too.

Then Ms. Judy said she was going to clean my teeth.

It tickled a lot.

I know because she showed me how it feels on my fingers first. The toothpaste was pink and very fruity.

It helped remove those stains.

Ms. Judy squirted water in my mouth from a gun.

And then sucked out my spit with a magic straw.

It was so cool! After she flossed, we were all done.

I got to pick out a new toothbrush.

I chose Winnie the Pooh. Then Dr. Haskett came in to really check my teeth.

He looked inside my mouth with a little mirror on a stick.

He wore funny glasses, but was very nice. When the dentist finished, he helped me out of the funny chair.

I slid off of it like a slide.

Then I got to pick out two stickers from the elephant just like my mommy did when she was little. You know, going to the dentist wasn't so bad.

I have really clean teeth!

It was fun.

I can't wait to go again.

The End.

Noah was ridiculous good. He didn't squirm or cry. He wasn't nervous or scared. He listened and did everything Ms. Judy asked of him. She kept asking him if he was sure he was three because he was acting a lot older than the three-year-olds who have come to visit her before. She couldn't believe just how good he was. When we got in the car, Noah wanted to see his 'pretty teeth' so I took out the small mirror I had in my purse. He was so impressed by the little white squares in his mouth! It was cute watching him be so proud. Then we drove over to see Daddy. Apparently the Tooth Fairy dropped off a present for Noah because the fairy heard just how good Noah was for the dentist. The Tooth Fairy is really good at her job because she picked out the perfect car from CARS 2 to add to Noah's collection. He was thrilled. Going to the dentist was such a great experience for all of us.
