A Patriotic Holiday

Just like in Goodnight tradition, we packed up the Yukon and headed to Alma, Arkansas to spend the 4th at Missy and Travis' home for our annual patriotic holiday. Family time, pool time, eating time, Corn Hole time, firecracker time and just a fun time was planned. Missy and Travis had recently finished their renovation of their attic space conversion. We were all excited to see the 1800 square foot addition. They really did a stellar job on the add-on with a great room complete with a pool table and bar, a man cave where the theater is and Lexi's, their almost 15-year-old daughter, private suite. (Not really. It's just her bedroom and bathroom, but it's still pretty 'sweet'!)

After the tour, it was pool time. Swim lessons really paid off for Noahbear. He is very confident on his own with just his life jacket. He is such a little frog. The boys tried their hand at pool...with their own made-up rules, of course. Gene Goodnight is quite the pool shark...Masha and Linda played really, really long games. Ah, the giggles we shared watching their epic games.Cody and I stopped before we left Norman and purchased some kid-friendly fireworks for Noah and Kade. We got the classic snakes, Pops, sparklers, smoke bombs and confetti poppers. We also got a complete a parachutes and tanks. We figured those were perfect 'boy' ones.Noah was so impressed by the smoke bombs. His face would just light up when the colors would seep out of the little balls. How did I get so lucky to be married to this gorgeous man?Uncle Travis and Cody are the best daddies and uncles ever. Kade and Noah wanted to 'camp', so the big boys set up a tent in the yard for the little boys to play in. The little boys were so excited!! Even though it was really, really hot out that didn't stop the boys from playing and enjoying time together.Noah was dead set on roasting marshmallows at Missy and Travis'. He asked the entire week leading up to our trip. So Daddy had to make it happen for his boy even if it was over 100 degrees outside. Cody whipped up a fire real quick. Uncle Dwayne went to town to get smores ingredients. And the girls came with pokers. It was hot. We sweated. But oh man were those smores good!Cody and Masha had a nice time on the swing. Cody is such a good big brother. Lexi kidnapped my camera so she and Masha had a fun time taking silly pictures. Lexi has such an eye for photography. The more she shoots, the better her vision for artistry gets.Cody's brother, Travis, then Gene, their dad and Cody. Aren't these handsome Goodnight men? A little nutty, but handsome none the less. We needed Dwayne to make the picture complete.Missy took everyone in to Alma at the water park to watch the town firework display. Talk about Hillbilly Heaven. You really felt like you were in Arkansas with the questionable people walking around. You aren't really a man in Arkansas unless you are walking around shirtless with a beer in hand. Noah and Kade had a nice time playing on the massive jungle gym. Cody and Sundy pushed the boys on the swings. Even Kade got in the little kiddie swing with Noah. It was a tight squeeze, but funny. We all enjoyed snow cones to beat the heat while we waited for dark to fall. When the fire works started, Noah had Nana cover his ears. He said it was real pretty, but just too loud. We were practically on top of the exploding colors anyway. We were at the base of the dam where the fireworks were being lit. You felt like it was right on top of you! Then to top off the vacation, we played a few rounds of Corn Hole before everyone headed home. This is a Goodnight tradition. And such a fun time!

Then for the actual 4th, we headed to the Adkins' home for a little bit of food and firecrackin'. Noah had a great time playing and jumping with Cashton and Kennedy. It was a great evening spent with friends.
