Checking Things Off Our To-Do List

Check! We have officially moved! We became new homeowners Tuesday, May 24th. Everything went off without a hitch. So first things, first. We had to put in a new mailbox. Someone backed over our mailbox. Me, being worried about not getting our mail, insisted Cody take care of the new mailbox immediately.

Cody dug out the old and put in the new. He poured concrete to stabilize the new post, painted the new post to match the exterior color of the house, attached the black metal mailbox and added the house numbers so visitors can find our house easier. Might I say the first product turned out fantastic!! Check that off the To-Do list!

Slowly, but surely we are checking things off our lengthy To-Do list...The next item is the new texture. It's completely finished and ready for painting. We also removed all the carpet in the house except for the playroom. Most of the carpet was either stained or reeked of dog. Removing carpet and tack board is quite a task in itself. Even the clean up! There was so much sand under the carpet. We do now have the cleanest concrete floor, though. I steam vacced it. We are now living on concrete with a few rugs borrowed from my mom. We will eventually get carpet, but that's WAY down on the To-Do list...

Still on our To-Do list is fix the major leak in the wall/foundation of the living room. During the last two rain storms, the living room has flooded. We didn't know exactly where the leak was. We just knew there was water and lots of it. Cody climbed on the roof with a water hose to investigate starting up high and working his way down to the foundation. Before closing, the bank agreed to pay for part of the leak repair. Since we are only living in half the house anyway, we aren't in too big of a rush to fix it, but we will eventually.

We have replaced all the beautiful gold and outdated ceiling fans with new ones that don't tick loudly or wobble so bad they'll come crashing down any second. When we remodeled our first home on Hollywood, Cody and I almost broke up over installing a ceiling fan. Seriously. It was a bad time for us. Ceiling fans are Cody's nemesis. There's just something about them that easily frustrates Cody. They might get him down for a bit, but they don't defeat him. The finished product always looks amazing. So check that off the list!

The last check we can make is the styles and trim in the kitchen, dining and living room are all sanded down and ready to be painted. Cody has worked so hard getting the old finish off and ready to be sprayed a black lacquer. Cody's dad, Gene, and sister, Masha, came up last week and took all the cabinet doors and drawers with them to finish sanding and then spray in Seminole. I've heard they are all done! So the wood work may get painted this week!!! Yes! That excites me because we don't have a kitchen. Our fridge is plugged in in the garage and we're using cabinets in the laundry room for a food pantry. I'm not much of a cook, but am finding I don't like not having the option to cook a meal. We are eating a lot of sandwiches and fast food. Pray for our health.

This new home means lots and lots of checks off the To-Do list. We'll keep you updated with each step we take.
