Noah had his three-year-old wellness check up today. I think I was more nervous than he was because I knew he was getting shots. I started preparing him early for the visit, so all Sunday we talked about the doctor's visit and how Dr. Milligan would listen to his heart and lungs, look in his ears, measure how tall and how much Noah weighs and then give him some shots to keep him healthy. Every time we'd get to the part about bandaids, Noah would cry. It just killed me. 1.) because I knew he associated the bandaid with getting a shot and 2.) because I would be back teaching school during his doctor visit, so I wouldn't be there. Also during break, I went to the doctor's for a check up myself. Cody and Noah dropped me off, so Noah and I talked about how Mommy goes to the doctor, too. I told him if he was very brave and listened to the doctor, he'd get a treat and Mommy would get him a special present afterward. So I sent a gift with Cody to help with Noah's bravery. Cody sent me pictures at school of Noah in the doctor's office. He was such a good boy. Noah weighs 34 pounds and 6 ounces (76th percentile). He's 38 1/4 inches tall (71th percentile) and his body mass index is 16 which he's in the 66th percentile for that. Does that mean my kid is a little chubby? Nah, he's just a healthy boy! Noah got two shots today. Cody said Noah wasn't really ready or aware of what was happening. Noah cried for about a minute, but once he saw the cup of Smarties the nurse had, it was all good. He got some Kung Fu Panda stickers, too! Afterward, Noah opened his bravery gift: the train from tv show Dinosaur Train complete with the dinosaur, Laura Gigantosaurus. For the rest of the day, Noah said, "Choo Choo! Here comes the dinosaur train!" It's good to have a healthy, happy boy and it's good Mommy won't have anymore anxiety over shots for another year.
