Haiti - Day One

4:30 am - Cody was up preparing for his day of travel. He hugged and kissed me goodbye just before 5 am. Before heading to the airport, he snuck into Noah's room to get one last look at his sleeping boy. (Cody has already told me his heart is aching for Noah.)

5:30 am - Cody checks in at the airport and meets up with his fellow missionaries - 1 doctor, 4 nurses and two members of Journey church. Cody took two large suitcases - one packed with scrubs, medical supplies and toiletries and the other packed with a week's supply of food - jerky, crackers, cups of noodles, MREs...

7:30 am- Plane departs from Will Rogers airport in OKC for Dallas/Fort Worth.

9:00 am- Cody calls home. Safely made it to DFW. Now he has a 4-hour layover before heading to Miami. Meets Chris Rock, a famous actor/comedian, at the McDonald's in the airport (picture above). The girl pictured, Jennifer, is one of the nurses traveling with Cody on the medical team. Cody tells me he may be running an ambulance to and from the hospital transporting people who need medical attention. The team may be working in 12 hour shifts - 7am-7pm and 7pm-7am. We have also heard the medical team who served last week (and is traveling home Sunday) moved many dead bodies. Not sure what Cody is walking into, but he will definitely be put to use.

12:30 pm- Cody boards plane destined for Miami, Florida.

3:33 pm- Text message from Cody "Just touched down in Miami. There's no way we're going to make our flight to the DR". Their plane to the DR (Dominican Republic) was scheduled to depart in less than an hour from when they landed. Cody texted "It leaves in 40 minutes. We have to get off the plane, find our bags, go thru customs and board. It's not gonna happen."

3:45 pm- Cody is still sitting on the plane. No other flights to the DR tonight. Cody was worried. I texted our standby prayer warriors. An awesome group of women dropped what they were doing to pray with me over the team.

4:00 pm- Cody's text "We're good I think. They said we don't have to do customs now or bags here." His plane should be departing...

4:01 pm- Cody's text "I'm boarding right now ;) We're good. Hope our bags make it too!!! Hallelujah!! Hallelujah!! Can I get an Amen?!" The Spirit is alive and moving and said, "Get out of the way, devil. You will not delay my team!"

6:42 pm- Safe and sound in the Dominican Republic with their bags! The team got dinner at a chicken place much like Chicken Express. The team will spend the night in the Dominican Republic. Tomorrow they will travel by bus to Port au Prince in Haiti. The bus trip is 6-8 hours long. The team will be working with Mission of Hope.
