Little Buck

Black Powder season is over. The eight short days had Cody in the woods only five times. A couple of times he saw a handful of does and a fork-horn buck. During one visit out, he had a good eight-point walk in near him, but disappeared before Cody could get a shot at him.

On the very last day at the very last second of Black Powder season, Cody took a shot at this little six-point buck pictured above. Right before sunset, this little guy came strolling in about 100 yards from where Cody was seated under a tree. He was grazing on acorns for about 15 minutes. Cody was hoping a bigger buck would come in behind him, but nothing came. The deer started walking straight toward Cody. Cody needed to fire his gun anyway (to get the powder and bullet out), so he took this opportunity. Now, it's taken me a while to come around to having a hunter for a husband because the thought of shooting Bambi hurts my heart, but Cody is always quick to reassure me how painless it was for the deer. So if you are like me, you'll be glad to know Cody got a good shot. The deer turned broadside -which opens up perfect aim to the heart. This deer was in Deer Heaven jumping fences and eating corn in less than a minute. In the words of this deer hunter, "I took it to the boiler room".

Noah spent the day with Dad on the 500 acreage in Seminole moving a deer stand, playing in the creek and riding the four-wheeler. Noah had a blast! So much in fact, he got a little country on him! His leg shows the battle wound from a briar patch. Ouch. Cody said it didn't even phase this tough little boy.
