The First Birthday Party

The Big Party finally arrived! Last Saturday we celebrated with family and close friends as Noah turned one. Here's how it all went down.
Noah woke up coughing and sneezing with watery eyes...just picture the poster child for an allegry commerical. We doped him up with Benadryl. Daddy and Noah went to the gym and got ice for the drinks from the fire station. We put Noah down for a mid-morning nap around 11 am with fingers crossed he would sleep it all off. Cody and I had to trick him into thinking one of us were still holding him as he laid on the floor in his room cuddled in the Boppy. (We're good at tricking him!) He just wants to be held when he's under the weather and not lay in that crib. He slept until 15 minutes before the party began - a really good nap (nearly two hours)!

Cody went to fire up the grill 30 minutes before kick off and the grill would NOT ignite! We started to sweat...called neighbors to see if we could borrow theirs. We ended up passing food and cooking utensils over the fence to the neighbors' yard. Cody's dad, Gene, arrived shortly after one and Cody said his dad would be dumb enough to manually light the grill. Gene took a napkin, lit it on fire and got the grill cooking!!

There were lots of people. Noah's buddy, Ty, came. Some tiny friends, Olivia, Sophie and Cole, came too! We took shifts opening gifts, sang "Happy Birthday" and Noah enjoyed a little bit of cake. An old friend of mine, Cole's mommy, Della, made a special dalmatian spotted birthday cake for the birthday boy. Noah gots lots of toys. He enjoys playing with them all and spreading them all out in the living room. Cody and I got Noah a big boy sandbox for his bithday. He doesn't know what to do with the sand just yet...It's cold and a weird texture, but I'm sure come summer he will love it!
The birthday party was a success even with a sick boy. We had a sweet friend take professional pictures for us, so we wouldn't have to fret over keeping up with the camera. It was very nice being able to enjoy the day and not worry about capturing all the moments! We are still waiting for the pictures to be developed! Soon we hope to share the visual side of this story...
