Looking Forward in '09

Hello! Welcome to our blog. Hopefully this will serve as a better spot to keep our updates instead of the occasional emails we send out. Not too much to add since our Christmas letter, only that God continues to be so good.

We have begun attending Journey Church, east campus, in Norman. We have joined a small group of married couples - some with small children, some just starting out and some aged in their married years. We are excited to see these relationships grow. Noah goes to the nursery while we attend worship. He loves to play there banging on his toys and playing with his buddy, Ty, who was born four days before Noah.  Their first birthdays will be so much fun! We had been attending Life Church in OKC for a couple of years and loved it, but felt like our little family needed a more intimate setting for fellowship and a sense of belonging. Lots of good things are coming from this move. We look forward to seeing God's purpose in this. We believe it's a good fit for us!

Noah is still growing like a weed. He is working on tooth #8, weighing in at 22 lbs and standing on his own (although still a little wobbly). He is SO close to walking. Nana and Papa (Cody's parents) bought him a walker, shaped like a car, for Christmas. At first, it was just a toy that had gadgets on it to twist, crank and spin. We'd set him up behind it to push as he walked, but he'd quickly give in after two or three steps. Crawling was much easier and faster, I suppose. Now he gets behind it, pulls up and goes to town cruising around the living room running into furniture. Once he gets stuck, he will continually bang his walker into the barricade until one of us turns him back onto a clear path.

He is becoming independent. He wants to figure things out on his own with minimal help from us. He is so curious, too. Cody and I were watching him the other morning as he played. We talked about how quickly his first year of life has passed, how hard it was on us to adjust and how we won't have a baby around the house anymore. Noah is just an absolute joy. We are so blessed to have a healthy, content little man. It was so easy to get pregnant, then be pregnant and bringing him into the world was a whirlwind considering the circumstances, but easy how it all turned out in comparison to how it could have been. And he is an easy baby. Cody and I just had the hard time adjusting!
My favorite thing Noah does is laugh. He has the most adorable, contagious laugh. And anything sets him off. Dropping a toy ball on his belly, tickling his thighs, a funny voice we do, kissing his neck...And once we get him started, it's hard for us to stop because he makes us laugh, too!

He can form words indiscriminately. "Ma Ma" and "Da Da". I swore the other night while I had the high school girls over for bible study, Noah crawled to my feet then looked at me, said "Ma Ma" and crawled into my arms. Of course, Cody says I heard things. I think we both want our own name to be Noah's first word. Noah is working on waving bye-bye. He's got the hand motion down, but lifting his arm up and when exactly to do it is the next obstacle to conquer.

Cody is still at Station #3 near OU campus for the time being. He enjoys it. He had a couple of good fires not too long ago - an apartment fire on the roof and a grass fire. Most calls are medically related or car accidents. He has been busy out in the garage with Beatrice, his second wife - a 1971 International Scout. It's the new money pit. I guess I can't complain since it was my Christmas present to him. He enjoys learning the in's and out's of a car.

As for me, two weeks after Lasik and the vision is still good. My eyes are dehydrated which is common from the surgery. Some moments are fuzzy because my eyes are dry. This could last up to 2 months until my eyes can begin to make tears again. For the most part, my vision is perfect. I'm so thankful we could afford to do this! At school, I am getting a student teacher for second semester. I'm not sure what I can teach her, but apparently, my principal thinks I will do a good job. I look forward to lightening my school load with someone else in the classroom with me.

And lastly, to close, Cody and I participated in a Daniel fast with our church. What an experience. Neither one of us has ever eaten so healthily in our entire lives. If you are interested, I suggest you try it! Read Chapter 10 of Daniel in the Old Testament. God is so good to us. We are enjoying the season we are in. We hope all of you are well and know just how blessed you truly are. We're just "living the dream".
