First Day of Kindergarten

Noah has officially begun Kindergarten!  He's having a blast so far!

His first day of school was August 21.  Both Cody and I took him to school that first day.

I woke Noah up at 6:45 am to get ready for school.  We have to be out the door by 7:20 am to make it on time, so Noah isn't tardy.  That's an early rise for our normal 8 am riser.  Noah was tired at first, but once it sunk in that it was the first day of school, he quickly perked up!  He had Lucky Charms for breakfast, brushed his teeth and put on his new shoes with his outfit.  We quickly snapped some pictures to remember this day.

We had to park a bit away from the school.  A lot of parents had the same idea as we did!  Many were walking their kids to class as well.

We took a quick pose by the school mascot.  Noah is a Jackson Tiger just like his momma!

Noah is in Mrs. Rowe's class.  (She is who we requested during pre-enrollment.  I was in youth group with Jacey growing up.)

Then trying to not be helicopter parents and hover, Cody gave Noah the "First Day of School" speech: be good, listen to your teacher, look for the "least of these" and show Jesus.

Cody came up later that afternoon to volunteer as a Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students).  A group of dads act as extra security on campus during school hours.  Cody is eager to be a part of this elite club!  While Cody was there roaming the halls, he snuck pictures of our boy learning on his first.  Of course, he was well behaved!  Noah always is.  It's hard for us as parents to allow our sweet, wholesome child be exposed to public school.  We can't control what is said to or around Noah anymore.  We have to live by faith.  We are feeling very vulnerable through this transition, but see Noah is enjoying himself to no end.

On Friday of his first week, I took Noah to Target to pick out his reward for having great behavior all week at school. Mrs. Rowe assigns colors to each student based upon how they act during the school day.  Green is good.  Everyone starts on green.  If you really good, you move to purple.  If you're exceptional, you get pink and a prize from the treasure bin.  If you are naughty, you go from yellow to red to blue.  We don't want ANY of those colors.  So to encourage our boy, we promised each week he completes with all greens, purples or pinks, he gets to pick out a new Disney Infinity character to go with the game he got on his first day of Kindergarten.  So far it's working.  He chose Syndrome from The Incredibles.  The second week of school, Noah got three greens and TWO purples!  He was so excited to tell us!  He chose the figure Davy Jones from Pirates of the Caribbean that week.

Noah hasn't made many friends yet.  We believe he is using his discernment in watching his classmates play and how they really act before approaching them to be friends.  That's good.

Jesus, we know You are with our boy each day at school.  Though we are not around to protect him, we know You are there.  Teach Noah how to chose friends.  Guard his little heart and mind against things that will taint his innocence.  Help his mind to grow with knowledge that will make him a success for Your glory in this world.  Ignite a love of learning in his soul.  We trust you, Lord.  Noah is Yours.  Thank you for letting us be his mommy and daddy.
