I'm a little behind in posting this. We actually completed this a few months ago. I finally took and downloaded pictures of Noah's room renovation. He finally has a very Big Boy bedroom!
When we first moved in, almost two years ago, this bedroom had been used as the dogs' bedroom. The window had been turned into part doggy door. Unfortunately, the installation of the doggy door wasn't very good...the window leaked. I don't just mean dripped water. I mean it rained, it poured a steady stream of water right inside the room...We knew this room would need attention soon.
First thing we patched the drippy window best we could hoping it would hold until we were ready to renovate. Then we ripped up the pee stained carpet and removed the doggy stairs to expose the floor vent. Then Noah had to make do until we were able to complete makeover his space.
BEFORE
MID-RENOVATION
We took the room down to the studs...I shouldn't say "we". Cody did ALL the work literally. He even pulled down the ceiling and bagged the insulation. We hired out a crew to put up new sheet rock and drywall. Well worth it! Uncle Dwayne and Papa Gene came down to help Cody with the new window installation. We were SO glad to see that doggy door go bye-bye! Cody replaced all the trim and doors which we painted black to match the rest of the house. We also hired out the carpet installation. It is absolutely amazing what carpet, or a finished floor for that matter, can do in making a room feel like a cozy, inviting space. Cody had me draw out how I wanted the closet to fit my organizational needs. We didn't feel Noah need TWO spaces in the house: a bedroom and a playroom. So I knew I'd need lots of storage for clothes AND toys in the closet. I got to drawing and Cody got to building. He did a fantastic job assembling the closet space!
Then it was time for design. Really, I didn't do much in the room. I wanted the room gray with a navy blue accent wall. Noah wanted a Transformer-themed room, so Cody got to shopping. He purchased two giant posters of Noah's favorite Transformers: Optimus Prime and Bumblebee. (I wouldn't let Noah have a huge mean 'ole Megatron...We will not promote characters who behave naughty in this house! *wink) Cody also purchased life-sized Fatheads of Optimus and Bumblebee to put on the wall. Cody said he always wanted a bed with a slide growing up, so that is exactly what we purchased Noah. $100 off Craigslist. I knew going into Kindergarten, Noah would bring home lots of artwork. I didn't necessarily want my fridge overtaken with his beautiful creations, so we made a space in his room to display all his masterpieces....scraps of wood painted blue and binder clips...all for under $10. And then Cody added the icing on the cake...A tv mounted to the wall under Noah's bed. No cable, just movies and video games.
Noah LOVES his room. It's a great room for a great little boy.
