Faith Like a Child
At bedtime a few weeks ago, Noah and I read the True Easter Story. We talked all about the Resurrection and what Jesus did on the cross for Noah. Now whenever he looks at the clouds, he tells us Jesus and God are up there. This evening Noah just sat on the back porch all by himself. Cody and I watched him through the window. He didn't want us out there with him. After about ten minutes, he came running in and asked, "Momma, what is God's name?" I said, "His name is God." He asked, "What is Jesus' name?" I said, "Son, his name is Jesus." He said, "Oh. I wanted to make sure that was their names since I invited them to the pond at our new house." I said, "Oh, you invited them to play?" He said, "Yep. I'm talking to them outside." And then he turned to run back outside. (Of course, I had tears in my eyes then. Even Cody's were watery. He ran to get the camera.) Noah went back to his little perch on the concrete and began talking again. He just sat there staring at the clouds talking to God like He was right there. After a few more minutes, Noah came back in with another question and this time he was perturbed. He said, "He's not coming down. God's not coming down. Jesus isn't coming down. Why aren't they coming down?" It's as if he expected to have God and Jesus part the clouds and come down from the heavens to be right there physically to play with him because he asked. That is such a hard thing to explain to a three-year-old. Cody scooped Noah up on the couch beside him and said, "Well, Son, Jesus died on the cross and God raised him from the dead so He lives in Heaven with his daddy now. We can't see Jesus or God like you can see us, but we can feel Him. He's here with you right now." Noah said, "He is? That makes me feel good." Then Cody showed pictures of what Jesus looks like. Cody told Noah he could picture Jesus like that when he talks to him. Noah finished saying, "I like to talk to God. He loves me." Faith like a child is absolutely humbling.
