Strenuous labor has begun. I didn't hear from Cody until around 2:30 pm today. Here's our text conversation.
Cody: Just taking my first break since 7:30 (am). It's after 3:00 (Haiti time). Unreal.
Alison: Have you eaten? What are you doing?
Cody: I'm sitting on the floor having tuna on a slice of bread. So good. :)
Alison: Yum. What work have you done?
Cody: Taking care of patients, preparing them to see the doc, driving the ambulance, transferring patients. I'm waiting on one to get out of surgery so I can take her to a different building.
Alison: Wow. Are you tired? Seen any bizarre wounds?
Cody: My feet hurt. Just not used to it. A lot of amputees and a lot of broken bones and infections.
Alison: Wow. Did you make any calls last night?
Cody: No. I slept until the chickens woke us up around 4. It was ridiculous. (Praise God! I'm thankful he got a decent night's rest! Answered prayer.)
(Then we texted about my day at school, but that really isn't relevant right now.)
Cody: I better get back down there. I'll text you later. Love you. :)
Alison: Not much of a break! Send me a pic of what you're doing. Lots of people praying for you here. It's pretty amazing!
Cody: I'll try. Bye babe. Kiss the boy for me.
Alison: I will. I love you and miss you! Don't forget to share Jesus!
Cody: I can't speak French!!
Alison: Do it anyway. The Spirit will plant the seed. Good call though.
Cody: I did pray over a crying child and she stopped crying. :) No joke.
Alison: That's awesome. I'm proud of you.
Cody: I've nicknamed myself "H squared"...is that bad? Haitian Hero. :)
(I really miss Cody's silliness. He makes me laugh. I can tell from this comment though he might be tired, he is in good spirits.)
------------------------------------
At 3:45 pm, I get this picture, via Kristie Meek. Cody has been trying to send it to me all day, but I haven't been able to get pictures from him. (Thanks, Kristie!) Cody says this is his 'G-ride" Cody is rollin' in Haiti One transporting patients. Ah, just like home. I let Cody know I got his picture, finally, and this is how our conversation went.
Cody: My ride. :) Cheryl said you posted on her blog. You're funny.
Alison: Who's Cheryl? Van der Mark?
Cody: She's the lady here at Mission of Hope. She said you posted on her blog. Her and I talked this morning and she asked about you.
Alison: I read their blog (last night because Lisa Talley, a family friend, introduced me to it. Good stuff. You should check it out, too. http://vdmcrew.blogspot.com/) Very good writing. I am amazed how devoted to the Mission they are. Seem like very nice people. Laurens is her husband, right?
Cody: They're great. Yeah. Brad and Vanessa actually own the place. I fell asleep in my room. Little 15 minute catnap. You know I'm tired when I fall asleep without trying to.

Alison: So they (Mission of Hope staff) can help us adopt? ;)
Cody: They have 59 orphans here.
Alison: One of those 59 needs to come live with us.
Cody: I'm bringing this little boy home. ( pictured on the right which I actually got from Cody!)
Alison: He and Noah can be brothers! He is so cute. What's his name?
Cody: Charlie.
-------------------------------
7:26 pm
Cody: Hey babe. Just got home from a church service. I sat away from the group. It didn't take long until I was swarmed by Haitian kids. They love my white skin and my hair. Pretty funny.
Alison: That's sweet. So did you pick us a good one?
Cody: I've got a few in mind. :)
Alison: How was the service? What was it like?
Cody: It was good. I couldn't understand any of it. :) It was good just to hangout with the people. The kids were fascinated with my watch, walkie talkie and camera on my phone.
Alison: That's cute. You should learn some French! Are y'all headed to bed soon? So you have walkie talkie, does that mean you're on call again?
Cody: Yeah, but chances are slim I'll have to get up. It would have to be a real emergency. I transferred a lot of surgery patients during the day. Alison: Do the kids just pet your skin? How is the rest of the team holding up? Do you share a room?Cody: Yes. The kids just pet my skin. The whole team is great. Two of the nurses (husband/wife combo) are working the night shift. We are in one room but my bunk is in a separate suite. Kinda nice. The rest of them are next to me. I just leave my door open. The walls don't go all the way to the ceiling, so you can hear everything. The interpreters live right next to us. You can hear them over the wall. It's funny. Plus, if they have their light on you can see it.
Alison: So is it like Station 7 sleeping quarters?
Cody: Kinda. Cement building with a tin roof. Last night actually felt pretty good. I wasn't hot.
Alison:
Is one of the interpreters Reuben? (Our church made a documentary of Haiti and Mission of Hope in December, one month before the earthquake. Check it out and meet
Reuben at
http://heartforhaiti.tv/.)
Cody: Yeah Reuben's here. All the people from the video. I tell them they're famous. I told them they inspired me to come. It made them feel good.
Cody:
Here's my bed. It's short. My feet hang off. I'm on the bottom because I'm afraid I'm gonna wake up and hit my head. I'm gonna hit the hay. Love and miss you.-------------------------------
Cody, you are caring for the least of these so the Spirit will care for you. May you find rest. May you have strength. May your feet, hands and body never tire or ache. The Lord will restore you. Continue to love on those children. They need it. We praise God for you and your team serving in the place we can not. Thank you for being an ambassador for us.
